Simple Steak Dinner with Fries

  • Two 8-ounce steaks (choose from hanger, skirt, or flat iron)

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 2 tablespoons of butter, cold and cubed

  • 2 sprigs of rosemary

  • 2 sprigs of thyme

  • 1 clove of garlic, smashed

  1. Prepare the Meat Patties:

    • In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, eggs, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, parsley, salt, and pepper.

    • Form the mixture into patties using a half-cup measuring cup as a mold.

  2. Sear the Patties:

    • Heat a skillet over medium-high heat with cooking oil and butter.

    • Sear the patties on both sides until browned (not cooked through).

  3. Prepare the Crockpot:

    • Spray the inside of the crockpot with non-stick cooking spray.

    • Place the seared patties into the crockpot.

  4. Make the Gravy:

    • In the same skillet, sauté the onions until browned.

    • Add beef consommé, minced garlic, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, and onion soup mix. Stir to combine and heat through.

    • Pour the gravy mixture over the patties in the crockpot.

  5. Cook:

    • Cover and cook on high for 3-4 hours or on low for 5-6 hours until the patties are tender.

  6. Thicken the Gravy:

    • Mix cornstarch with water to form a slurry.

    • Stir into the crockpot to thicken the gravy.

  7. Serve:

    • Serve the Salisbury steak and gravy with mashed potatoes and asparagus or your choice of sides.
